"My managers
don't look beyond their department"
(Leadership Development)
The CEO of a company producing electronic parts complained about his
seven managers who don't seem to look beyond their department boundaries,
and who are more concerned about protecting their privileges than
thinking in terms of the whole company. The task of the management team
was to coordinate all business aspects.
Discussing the situation with the CORES consultant it became evident
that there were underlying problems. The goals and tasks were vague and
subject to arbitrary interpretation. Consequently the managers chose to
focus on their own department. With the help of the consultant, goals
and tasks were redefined, accountability was established and a new
decision making process was introduced. Facilitation and meeting skills
were improved in a customized workshop.
Every two weeks the progress of the changes were evaluated and optimized
with the CORES consultant. An assessment conducted after two months
proved that the task coordination of the management team had clearly
improved and as a result quality management reported fewer returns.
